The Safety Challenge
Textile environments possess a high “Flash Fire” potential. Factory floor layouts often involve large open spaces where lint accumulation can facilitate rapid, uncontrolled fire spread. These conditions present unique challenges for traditional smoke detection, which can be prone to false alarms from airborne fibers or fail to react quickly enough to a fast-moving surface fire.
Engineering Scope
- Dual-Layer Defense: Application of High-sensitivity Detection (NFPA 72) coupled with active protection measures.
- Passive Containment: Installation of specialized fire-rated doors to create life-safety compartments, designed to “box in” fire zones and protect personnel.
- Safe Egress: Placement of high-visibility, illuminated exit signboards to guide a large workforce through expansive factory floors during an emergency.
Handover & Verification
Commissioning included the verification of fire door latching mechanisms and an audibility test for the alarm system. It was essential to ensure that emergency signals exceeded the significant ambient decibel levels generated by industrial sewing and cutting machinery.Transitioning from apparel manufacturing, specialized safety requirements also extend to the chemical-intensive and high-precision environments of industrial glove production.
